art-beach family art installation

During July as part of our aim to make the arts accessible to everyone we launched “art beach” to coincide with the start of the summer holidays.  Art Beach was a family friendly art installation that ran from the 17th July until 1st August and was open to members of the public to come in and play and to interact with the piece in any way they saw fit.

The installation comprised of 1 tonne of sand, and a sea made from 25 metres of blue tarpaulin and 10 metres of white felt.  There were buckets and spades available for children (or adults) to play with on the sand and other beach paraphernalia, including beach towels and balls scattered around.

The installation proved very popular (probably in some small part to the terrible weather), particularly with children with many people surprised that art could be fun.
