Featuring work from Sue Eves’ Rollered collection and Krasimira Butseva’s well received, Slices of Red (pieces of which have been featured on Lens Culture and Source among others); Fragments aims to create a two-way conversation about the lived experience, and our understanding of what is real and what is not, whether that is down to human imagination, as in the case of Sue’s work Rollered or due to some different system, such as that used in propaganda, represented by Krasimira’s work questioning the reality of the photographic image in relation to Eastern European communism.
Sue Eves, Synapse (2016)
It does this by situating the work of these two very different artists in such a way that can be read either as individual collections or together, moving from one side of the room to the other, looking at the concept of reality and what impact our psychology and lived experience has on our own version of what can be considered “real”.
Krasimira Butseva, Slices of Red (2016)
The private view begins at 5pm and continues until 7pm at our new base in the heart of historic Gosport. Both artists will be in attendance and on-hand to speak more about their work and food and drink will be provided by Sticks Contemporary.

We received our eviction notice on Thursday (27th April) and so have spent the last two days removing the last vestiges of Sticks from Fareham Shopping Centre. To all those who have supported us at Fareham Shopping Centre we are grateful. To those who will miss us as a break from the boredom of consumerism, remember we still have an outreach space in Fareham. To those who are worried this is the end:
It’s not.
We currently have a rolling call on our affiliates site for the Food Gallery.
You can still catch the wonderful exhibition, VIBRANT, featuring the work of Svetlana Ochkovskaya at Food Gallery until 29th May
The wonderful work of illustrator Erin Keen is still on view at Tooth Gallery
AND
We will be updating you about the new Sticks main space very soon
Releasing details of an exciting event we are currently working on with support from Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy
For those who have contacted us concerned. We will still be running the open this year and will be releasing details in due course

Artists based in the South of England are invited to propose an ambitious wall drawing for Aspex Guildhall, to be
sited in the basement exhibition area at Portsmouth’s Guildhall for one year.
Aspex Visual Arts Trust and Portsmouth Cultural Trust who run the Guildhall have been working together to
present the work of emerging visual artists for the last two years. Aspex Guildhall’s changing exhibition
programme has recently moved to the café on the ground floor of the building. An exciting opportunity is now open
to artists to propose a wall drawing for a new commission for the basement exhibition space.
Working directly onto the Guildhall basement wall, the commissioned artist will produce a dynamic and original wall
drawing, the progress of which will be open for the public to view both within the space and digitally. The finished
work will remain on display for the duration of one year.
The space available for the drawing is a straight wall approximately 16×2.5m (53x8ft). Proposals are invited from
emerging artists based in the South of England.
A £1000 fee will be awarded to the selected artist and a budget of up to £500 will be available for materials and
expenses.
Deadline for submissions: Monday 22 August 2016, 10am.
Work to commence early September 2016, dates to be agreed with artist and venue.
Submission procedure:
• Short proposal outlining your concept and how it relates to the development of your practice (500 words
max.)
• A sketched design of the proposed work
• An up-to-date CV. (Max 2 pages)
Photograph courtesy the artist, 2016.
• Up to 5 images of previous work
Submission specifications:

The doors open at 5pm and there will be food and drink available for all those who pop by to see this great exhibition before it opens to the public.
From Animatronics, to models, prosthetics, to film we have a wide variety of brilliant visual treats for fans of fx and as always the exhibition is completely free to view although donations are always welcome.
If you are a filmmaker and looking for talent to work on your next production you could do worse than having a chat with TankFall FX! Like Hampshire Film Co we have been hugely impressed by the quality and skill of their work.
If you cannot make it to the launch we are back open next Thursday and then every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the exhibition ends on July 30th.
