This January we are launching a new opportunity in Sticks Gallery for up to 4 artists to use the space to\u00a0create an exhibition in real time responding to the previous artists’ work.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Is an exciting new project to see what happens when artists are asked to directly respond to the work of someone else and where there are no other rules or expectations.<\/p>\n

During their week the selected artist’s will be able to use the whole of the downstairs of Sticks Gallery as a studio in which to work, with the door open so that people may come in and observe the artist’s as they create their responses and learn more about their work.<\/p>\n

We want this to be used by artists as a testing ground and a way to explore ideas about play and what constitutes a work of art. \u00a0We will provide various materials to the selected artists and supply each artist with \u00a320 to purchase other materials as they deem fit. \u00a0We are interested in what ways artists respond to a limited budget and working with other materials. \u00a0We are particularly interested in artists who want to challenge themselves by working in a different medium to they are used to. \u00a0Artists are also free to use our equipment in the showcasing of their work; this includes projectors, screens a PA system, blur ray player, etc and where necessary artists are free to bring in equipment and\/or materials from home (e.g. if they are a photographer).<\/p>\n

Four artists will be selected and each artist will have a week in which to create their work during our normal opening times (other times can be arranged via discussion), with each artist adding to the previous work created.<\/p>\n

Response will form an ongoing curatorial project with each artist able to reshape the meaning of the exhibition and re-position the former artists’ work.<\/p>\n

Upon the conclusion of the last week the resulting exhibition will remain open until 18th February on our usual days.<\/p>\n

The dates for the micro-residencies are:<\/p>\n

Week 1: Jan 9th – 15th<\/p>\n

Week 2: Jan 16th – 22nd<\/p>\n

Week 3: Jan 23rd – 29th<\/p>\n

Week 4: Jan 30th – 5th Feb<\/p>\n

Artists interested in responding to this call out are asked to send a 100 word (maximum) response explaining why they’re interested in this project and up to 5 examples of their work that they feel best reflects their practice to admin@sticksgallery.co.uk. \u00a0We welcome applications from artists working in all media, including visual, written and sound<\/p>\n
