These workshops are not a form of therapy and non of the artists involved are counsellors. However, everyone teaching the workshops has experience of mental health issues whether directly or indirectly, and all have workshop experience. There will always be someone on site with a current DBS.
These workshops are for 13-17 year olds and anybody who would like to attend should email beth@sticksgallery.co.uk to reserve their place before hand. The workshops are completely free and young people will get the chance to do songwriting, action painting, drawing, performance poetry, physical theatre and art journalling.
The gallery will be closing early on the days the workshops run and will not be open to the public during the sessions so that the participants do not feel like they are being watched. The young people will get to take home everything they produce. Photographs will be taken of the sessions but will only be used if agreement of parents for under 16s is given.

Physical theatre is a really accessible form of theatre, where language, or lack of it, is not a barrier as the story is mostly told through physical means. It is closely linked to choreography and other physical art forms such as mime and circus: the unifying aspect is a “reliance on physical motion of the performers rather than or combined with text to convey the story”.
Stories are communicated by performers through hand gestures, body language, thought tracking and many more physical features. This makes it great as an introduction to the theatre and as a way of enabling everyone, irrespective of age or health to join in.
The workshop will last under 2 hours and we would be interested to get people’s opinions about running a workshop such as this more regularly at Sticks.
We hope to see you there… no one is too old, too young, too loud, too infirm or too anything to join us!!! We want to see as many of you here as possible!

The post Artist Opportunity with a Southampton School first appeared on .]]>A few months ago we applied for some funding to run a series of workshops examining the history of Fareham borough with older, isolated people living in the borough; families with disabled children and adults with learning disabilities. These workshops would culminate in an exhibition and the publication of a new heritage trail map for Fareham.
We are very pleased and excited to announce that on Friday we received confirmation that we had been successful in our grant application. The workshops will run this summer and will be a chance for our chosen groups to get creative, make new friends, learn new skills, find out about Fareham’s history and produce an exhibition and history trail they can feel proud of.
After publication the heritage trail will be available to buy and all monies from the sale of the map will be divided between Live Art Local CIC and charities/groups that help those groups working on the project.
We will be posting more information in due course
